All about The Village Square
A pop-up public space where you can grab a takeaway, relax outside and enjoy a bit of a show on the side.

The Village Square is located on the corner of Lyttleton and Frederick Streets in central Castlemaine. Since it launched in March 2021, the Village Square has played host to 80 performers, eight live radio broadcasts, four festivals, one solar-powered stage and even a garden built by children. It has attracted thousands of visitors, providing a COVIDSafe environment to enjoy the best of Castlemaine’s creativity, food and wine.

The Village Square has hosted Castlemaine State, Castlemaine Fringe and Village Festival projects, as well as the Festival of Winemaking, Brewing and Distilling drawing local and new audiences to the heart of Castlemaine. It now has funding from Creative Victoria’s Creative Neighbourhoods Partnerships Pilot Program, which aims to unlock and open up spaces for creative work and participation, in partnership with our local community .
