Laura Jean returns to the Theatre Royal for the first time in over three years, to preview her forthcoming album Amateurs – out through Chapter Music in early November.
Amateurs is a stunning, string-laden album, set at a mystical midway point between the deep synth-pop of Laura’s last album, Devotion, and the folkier sounds of her earlier work. Recorded in Stanmore and St Peters on Gadigal Country in-between the long 2020-2021 lockdowns, Amateurs is an album about anti-art and anti-intellectual culture, that sees Laura questioning her role as a songwriter and examining the reality of her choice to prioritise art over other parts of her life. It is also a warmhearted, humorous and sonically breathtaking album.
Special guest for this show will be Melbourne-based musician Grand Salvo, who is “acclaimed for his ability to transport listeners with atmospheric arrangements, detailed compositions, and immersive stories” Triple RRR
Laura Jean at the Theatre Royal Castlemaine is proudly supported by Gold Sounds Music Conference, a four-day event designed to bring together the Victorian music communities, held in Castlemaine, on Djaara country, from 13-16 October.
