Back for another year, Gold Sounds brings the Victorian music community together in Castlemaine.

From 13-16 October, Central Victoria’s biggest music conference returns for its second year, bringing together Victoria’s regional and Melbourne music communities for a host of panels, workshops, networking events, and a youth program.

Conference sessions cover a myriad of topics and play host to an extraordinary array of music industry professionals including artist managers, booking agents, musicians, academics, activists and more.

Sessions include: Music & Identity, Touring, Festival Programming, Grants & Funding, Working in Creative Teams, Music & Activism, Copyright & Licensing, Songwriters in Conversation, – and more.

Gold Sounds will also feature in-depth songwriting workshops, music interview training and other practical sessions.

The event will include collaborations with APRA AMCOS, Australia Council for the Arts, Community Media Training Organisation, Creative Victoria, Green Music Australia, FReeZA, Mount Alexander Shire Council, Music Victoria, Regional Arts Victoria, Support Act and VMDO.

Produced by Castlemaine local, Fionna Allan, the 2021 Conference was part of Music Victoria’s Regional Music Development program, attracting more than 100 people from the music industry and community across the weekend. The event won the Mount Alexander Shire Council Community Event of the Year.

Host Details

Managed by Mount Alexander Shire Council, the Phee Broadway Theatre is located in the heart of Castlemaine's cultural precinct. The theatre was named in honor of Phee Broadway OAM, the Festival Manager of the Castlemaine State Festival for the first 18 years of its life. The Phee is used for theatre productions, live music, dance performances, films, touring shows, conferences and school productions. The Phee can seat up to 230 and shares a foyer with the Castlemaine Library that regularly hosts exhibitions offered to local artists through an EOI process at the start of each year.
